Repetitive Strain Injury in Archaeology
The carpal tunnel in my right wrist is back (woohoo!) so I’m currently googling “wrist injuries archaeology” to see what suggestions are out there before I go to a doctor.
The drawings in this article suck, but it’s more to start a discussion.
Thoughts?
I had terrible carpal tunnel issues when I was digging STUs in Georgia. After that job, I was digging STUs in Wisconsin and the CT wasn’t nearly so bad. What I think made the difference was the size of the hand screens. I still have it, but it’s mostly because of typing, cycling, and just… you know… life.
If this is from a paid gig, I strongly encourage you to discuss this with your employer as it might be covered under workers comp. Occupational Therapy is much cheaper and has a lot less down-time than surgery. It’s better to deal with this professionally now instead of putting it off while experimenting with Dr. Google. I did a round of OT for a shoulder RSI and it helped immensely.
